Sportime Schenectady reopened this past May after recovering from a fire that occurred in April. Since then, they have been able to operate with their normal services and regularly scheduled business hours. Over the summer, the facility was able to host a 10-week-long summer camp for kids.

On June 21, they announced on Facebook, that they were beginning a reconstruction project that they would be “converting [their] former 2-court tennis building into a 5-court Pickleball Center. Our new pickleball facility will offer dedicated, indoor, pickleball courts by late Summer 2023!”

This reconstruction project is set to wrap up on Sept. 25th. Once the pickleball courts are open, pickleball programs ranging from open plays to beginner clinics and advanced leagues are going to be held within the five indoor pickleball designated courts.

According to Pickleball518, they will “offer skill-specific classes like how to hit with your backhand and a “Topspin / Speed Up & Attack Clinic.””

Sarah Sharpe, Sportime’s general manager, said to the sports news outlet that “the club’s pickleball programs will be “a launch pad for people who want to learn and then have avenues to go from there.”

Almost all of Sportime’s offerings will be available to non-members. The club’s pickleball membership will cost $20 per month and provides:

  • 7-day advanced court-time reservation
  • Member rates on clinics, lessons, open play sessions and events.
  • Free monthly clinics and court-time
  • Reciprocity at all SPORTIME clubs offering pickleball

Pickleball518 also reports that, “During the second phase of construction at Sportime, the LED lighting will be reconfigured to better illuminate the pickleball courts and work will be completed on a pro shop for both pickleball and tennis, lobby, lounge and locker rooms.”
